free boots for life?

Sooooo, last week I ordered a super cute pair of boots online
(pictured to the right). When they arrived I was allll excited to try them on. I pulled out all of the paper packaging, unzipped the right boot down tot he bottom and I slipped my right foot into the boot. Then, as I started to stand up and put my full weight on that foot to force my toes in.... all of the sudden... AHHH! OUCH! Suuuper sharp pain on my big toe... like something, stabbed me?

I pulled my foot out and looked at my big toe and saw that it was gushing blood. Then, I stuck my hand inside of the boot and felt the culprit: a big metal nail poking out about half an inch through the liner. Greaatttt.

I hopped all over the apartment trying to find band aids (I move them like once a week when I get the urge to clean and reorganize- apparently not a good idea in an emergency), then I had to go around with Clorox wipes to clean us the blood that was covering my wood floors. Then I got on the phone with the company.

When I explained what had happened she customer service rep's response was (I kid you not): "What would you like us to do about it?"

!!!!!! Angerrr.

"Well," I replied "The brand new boot you sent me has a huge nail sticking out through the liner and it went into my big toe, which is now bleeding. So, for starters, I'd like new pair of boots"

They agreed to send me a new pair, free of charge (and promised to fully inspect them this time), but wouldn't refund my initial order. Whatever, at this point I was tired and my foot was throbbing and I was in the middle of a Gilmore Girls episode so I just took what I could get.

The next morning my big toe was practically purple, and a little swollen. When I got on to lab and told one of my lab-mates about it she asked when the last time was that I had a tetanus shot. "Ummm, never?" Then I called my Mom to confirm and she said that was correct- no protection from tetanus for me- and that I better go to the doctor and get immunized.

Next I got online and did a little research. Apparently you are supposed to get a tetanus booster immunization every 6-10 years, and if it has been over that long and you get any puncture wound you have to go get a shot.

So, I marched myself across the street to the student health center and told the nurse what happened. Then she sent the doctor in to inspect my toe (not infected- "but watch out for signs of cellulitis!" he tells me). But, I still had to get the tetanus shot.

So, I got my shot (hurt like hell, but they gave me a Scooby Doo Band-Aid to make up for it). And then, as the doctor walked out the door her turned around and said to me "You know, you should sue that boot company! You could get free boots for life!"

Update: As a result of the stupid shot my right arm hurt REAL BAD for 4 days. Also, I had to pay $54 for my tetanus vaccine which I thought was sort of crappy so I emailed the company that sold me the shoes and asked them to reimburse me for my medical expenses. Two days later I got a call and they said "yes!" Pretty cool of them, I thought.
